What are the risks on pregnant women and child?

by Sandy
(UK)

What are the risks from the treatment and medication used during pregnancy? How it can affect a pregnant woman and her child after birth?

Answer
We've not had reports of side effects from Lectroject as it's simply a delivery device. The machine has been evaluated by State Health and found to have no harmfull effects. As of the present time, the only effective treatment has been Acyclovir cream.

The possibility of side effects from the medication is always present. Side effect of acyclovir cream are rare and consists of a burning tingling sensation at the site of the application. According to their package insert.

Acyclovir has been used by pregnant women and no birth defects or other related problems have been reported; however, studies of acyclovir in pregnancy in humans have been limited and inconclusive.

Safe use of suppressive antiviral therapy among pregnant women and on the unborn child is unproven.
