Lectroject - Penciclovir the perfect fit
Penciclovir is Lectroject's up the sleeve alternative herpes treatment for acyclovir resistant strains Denavir FDA approved prescription medication used in conjunction with lectroject for the treatment of herpes I and II. It received its FDA approval in 1996. Denavir is a registered trademark of Novartis Consumer Health, Inc.
Pharmacology and use: Denavir is the active metabolite of the oral product famciclovir. The more favorable results observed with topical penciclovir versus topical acyclovir for the treatment of herpes labialis may be due to the longer intracellular half-life of penciclovir in HSV-infected cells. Used to treat recurrent cold sores on the lips and face.New Product: VectavirVectavir is a brand name of PenciclovirVectavir is a topical cream containing the active ingredient Penciclovir. It is manufactured by Novartis (but untill 2000 byGlaxoSmithKline) and has been available in New Zealand, someEuropean contries and UK since 1996. Vectavir is another brandname for Denavir, also from Novartis. How does it work? Vectavir is an antiviral medicine which is used to treat certain viral infections. It acts by preventing the production of viral genetic material (DNA), which is required for the reproduction and survival of the virus. Vectavir itself does not kill the virus, but by stopping it from reproducing, the virus is present in lower numbers. The lower numbers mean that the body's immune system can more easily overcome the virus. Mode Of Action: Penciclovir has in vitro activity against herpes simplex virus types 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2). In cells infected with HSV-1 or HSV-2, viral thymidine kinase phosphorylates penciclovir to a monophosphate form. The monophosphate form of the drug is then converted to penciclovir triphosphate by cellular kinases. The intracellular triphosphate of penciclovir is retained in vitro inside HSV-infected cells for 10-20 hours, compared with 0.7-1 hour for acyclovir. in vitro studies show that penciclovir triphosphate selectively inhibits viral DNA polymerase by competing with deoxyguanosine triphosphate. Inhibition of DNA synthesis of virus-infected cells inhibits viral replication. In cells not infected with HSV, DNA synthesis is unaltered. Resistant mutants of HSV can occur from qualitative changes in viral thymidine kinase or DNA polymerase. The best time to begin treatment is in the early itching tingle stage. The medication attacks the DNA of the virus, If the virus is present Denavir will affect it. With or without outbreak it will still help destroy the virus. It's better not to wait for an outbreak as, at that time your immune system is depressed and the virus is at it's most potent. The earlier in the disease process that treatment begins, the more effective are the results. You dont have to have the blisters present, lectroject denavir treatment during outbreaks is to shorten the attack but treatment between attacks could help to abort the attack. The electro-cure device is designed to reduce outbreaks and hopefully, destroys the virus.
Which is best, Denavir ® cream or Zovirax ® cream? There have been encouraging reports from the US that penciclovir is much more effective than acyclovir. Having said that, three of the sources we have used as references for this page ( Femiano 2001, Lin 2002, McKeough 2001 ) have each studied the head-to-head effectiveness of acyclovir cream (the compound found in Zovirax) and penciclovir cream (the compound found in Denavir) in the treatment of cold sores. The conclusions drawn by all three of these studies suggest that penciclovir cream (Denavir) is the more effective medication. Acyclovir appears to be losing its effectiveness in the same way as Penicillin. If you do proof resistant to acyclovir, then the medication of choice is penciclovir (Denavir).
