Herpes test - Outbreak free for 10+ years - Will it still be infectious?

by Moon
(Mass US)

After 30 years of thinking I had herpes 2, I recently took a IgG test and it was 1.79. (I did not have a IgM test)The doctor explained either I never had herpes in the first place or its worked its way out of my system. The first doc did a visual inspection and I never had a recheck for 30 years because my outbreaks were so infrequent and I only had one "pimple" on my outside vaginal lips at a time. NEVER anything like the outbreaks shown on some internet sites. I haven't had any outbreaks or pimple like lesions in at least ten years- closer to 15-or more.

My question is: Can I still transmit this aliment to another if in fact the results are not a false positve? Reference range of normal was 0-.9. It is very diffult to get a straight answer. My current doc suggested that I take H off the table and stop worrying about it and that the chances of infecting someone is so remote that its not worth thinking about or even mentioning. I need to be comfortable with an answer before I can decide what to do. Thank you.

Answer

I tend to agree with your doctor however, asymptomatic carriers of the HSV-2 virus are still contagious. To be 100% certain I suggest that you ask you doctor for a cerebro spinal fluid PCR DNA test.
