Herpes bood test numbers IgG (11.49) H

by Marissa
(CA US)

I had sex with a guy 1yr ago, I start noticing a couple weeks later my anal start itching very bad, so I went to the doctor and got a std check including the herpes1 and herpes2 test. Everything came back negative except for my herpes2 test and the number was so shocking.IgG hsv2 (11.49)H. Is this an old infection or from my last year sex encounter.

Answer

A positive IgG result merely indicates (level of antibodies) past infection, and does not say anything about current infection.

If you’ve been diagnosed with herpes by a blood antibody test, get a copy of your results, and make sure they are IgG results, not IgM results. If you were positive by IgM and not by IgG, and at least 3-4 months have passed since your test, ask for an IgG test. If its negative, then the IgM was wrong.

IgM antibodies can be present when the person is truly negative for both HSV1 and HSV2. The IgM test is worthless, and shouldn't be used for the diagnosis of herpes.

If the test result is more than 3-4 months old then I advise that you go for a re-test.
