Could This Be A False-Positive Herpes Test Result?

by Margarita
(Los Angeles CA)

I recently whet to see a doctor because I was late in my menstruation, and the doctor run a pregnancy test, on the urine and it was negative and he said do you want to have a std test and he send a blood test and a pap smear. The result for papsmear were negative. HIV , ghonorea etc were negative but she said herpes is positive.

I think it could be a false diagnosis because every year I have check up, it always normal. I only have one sex partner who assure me that he has me only.

The results is as follow:
HSV1 IgG quant ( Herpes Select)
HSV 1 IgG Antibody 13.25 H4
HSV 2 IgG 11.07 H6
and in the bottom say antibody not detected 0.90

Do you think I have it or it could be false?

Answer

I am afraid your doctor coulde be correct, the results point to exposure to both HSV 1 AND 2.

False-positive test results are possible but the readings given are way above the 0.90 mark.

It is difficult to tell from these tests when the exposure may have occurred because it takes several weeks for HSV antibodies to show up in the blood.

If you recon your risk for getting the virus is low, you may need to be tested again.
