Today I got my lab results back. I had NO IGG results but my IGM result was 1.41 The doctor said I was very recently infected with HSV 2. oh yeah? I havent had sex in 3 months! and I havent had an outbreak!!! this is very weird. Any thoughts on what this could be?
Answer I suspect a false positive IgM. IgM tests sometimes cross-react with other viruses in the same family, such as varicella zoster virus (VZV) which causes chickenpox or cytomegalovirus (CMV) which causes mono, meaning that positive results may be misleading.
